Here is the JR XG14E before we turn it into the ultimate tray radio.
There are two buttons that you need to press to separate the case.
STEP 1: Depress the buttons on each side to take the case apart.
Here is the case apart. Be careful not to touch anything until the battery is disconnected.
STEP 2: Remove the plug from the battery before you start working on anything.
You can see the connectors and switches along the top left and right of the transmitter. (more on this later)
STEP 3: To remove the factory sticks, I used a pair of needle nose pliers and positioned them under the adjustable part of the stick. Then gently push down on the end of the pliers creating leverage. The sticks are press-fit into the socket and will come out with slight pressure.
STEP 4: To install the new sticks, the wires for the 3-position switch need to be fed through the hole.
STEP 5: Once the wire is fed through, gently press the new stick into place. Be sure the set screw points to the bottom of the front of the radio and the other set screw should point to the left.
STEP 6: Guide the wire out from the right of the gimbal.
STEP 7: Slide the wire through the hole in the side of the gimbal. Note that there is already a wire going through the hole. There is enough room for the new wires too, just use care.
STEP 8: Place the wires through the wire holder on the outside of the gimbal. Be sure to leave some slack like with the yellow/black/blue wires that are already there. The slack allows the wire to move with the stick inputs.
STEP 9: Once the wire harness is routed, you need to solder on the plug. They included shrink tubing which you need to put in place before you solder the wires. Just match the colors and solder. Don’t use too much heat or solder. All wires are pre-tinned so it will not take much to secure them.
STEP 10: Slide the shrink tubing over the solder connection and use a heat gun to shrink the tubing.
STEP 11: You need to disconnect one existing switch and use its port for the transmitter sticks 3-position switch. I chose to disconnect the switch at position 1. The wire for it is located at 2. This shows the new wire from the stick switch connected and the wire from the existing switch stored in the wire box at 3.
STEP 12: Remove the screw to the wire box so you can store the unused plug from the switch you choose to disconnect as well as the extra wire from the new stick switches. When done you can reinstall the cover.
SWITCH INSTALL COMPLETE: Here it is all connected from the inside.
The instructions show you which holes to drill out.
STEP 1: To install the Tray Arms, use a 3mm (1/8″) drill bit and completely drill out each of the 12 holes in the bottom of the inside of the case.
STEP 2: Use the supplied screws to attach the Tray arms. There are 12 in total.
